When you have a sinus infection your doctor may give you a number of drugs to treat this problem successfully. To give you the best treatment for sinus infection your doctor may recommend an antibiotic to control the bacterial infection, pain relievers to reduce pain and decongestants to reduce congestion.

If you suffer from chronic sinus infection, the doctor may prescribe the use of antibiotics but he or she may also recommend to just leave alone – as the cause of sinusitis. However, your doctor will recommend usually over-cons of treatments that include mostly decongestants in the form of drops and nasal sprays, however these are not cures for a constant and can only be used for several days. If used over longer periods of decongestants can actually cause more swelling and irritation of mucous membrane thereby increasing the blockage. Make sure that you will not use any medication without consulting your doctor.

If you have an allergy to the sinus infection you may have to use other medicines such as antihistamines or nasal sprays based by steroid. Doctors normally recommend using a steroid nasal spray to help reduce the swelling around the sinus passages. These medicines also allow sinuses to drain. Antihistamines are usually prescribed based, effective but expensive, can also cause nosebleeds, headaches and other side effects (however often that allergy sufferers have no other choice). If you have asthma with sinusitis you should see the doctor regularly to keep your condition under control.
